The Story
Despite decades of blurry vision, Shannon Niverson's refused to wear her glasses. They were thick
and bulky, and she didn't like the way she looked in them. After being fitted for contacts when she
was 13, Shannon wore them constantly, avoiding her glasses at all costs.
Shannon's strong abhorrence of her glasses ultimately led to the overuse and misuse of her contact lenses.
She wore them as often as possible, and even slept in them at times. Eventually,
excessive use led to a corneal ulcer, which caused Shannon excruciating pain, and significant
inconvenience. This horrible experience opened her eyes to other options, and Shannon began to
consider LASIK as a possible solution to her vision problems.
Because of her history of contact abuse, Shannon went into the LASIK procedure recognizing that
she may not achieve perfect vision and that she may be more susceptible to various
complications. She was ecstatic when immediately following surgery, she was able to see clearly,
and knew that glasses and contacts were a thing of the past.
Today, Shannon has 20/20 vision in both eyes and no need for the contact lenses she used to wear
constantly. She's amazed that now she can go swimming and water skiing, open her eyes under
water, and see everything around her. LASIK has improved her work life as well. She never again
will have to worry about contact lens overuse and the dry eyes and blurry vision that would result
after long days at the computer. To Shannon, her successful LASIK surgery was like a miracle and
has truly changed her life. |
