Botox
Botox treatments have been used in the Ophthalmology field for many years. Botox has been and continues to be used for the treatment of blepharospasms (twitching) in the eyelids. While being used in this medical application, Botox was determined to be effective in the softening of fine lines and wrinkles. With its recent FDA approval for cosmetic use, Botox has been growing in popularity to give both men and women a more youthful and relaxed appearance. Dr. First has many years of experience working with Botox, and is happy to give you a consultation. If you have good muscle tone and realistic expectations, Botox injections may be the answer for you. Please call to schedule an appointment for a consultation.
Cataract Evaluations
Cataracts is the clouding of the natural lens in the eye. This clouding dulls light that passes through, blurring colors and images. Over 60% of the people age 62 and above have symptoms of Cataracts. It is important to maintain your annual eye examinations to detect those symptoms and other diseases that may include diabetes and glaucoma, the other two leading causes of adult blindness. While these problems can rob you of your vision, we have painless testing that can recognize changes and save your sight.
Contact Lenses
State of the art equipment makes it possible for us to fit virtually any patient for contact lenses. In addition to standard contact lenses, we have custom designed contacts, colored contacts, and bifocal contacts. Please mention to our receptionist when scheduling your appointment that you are interested in contact lenses, so that we may set aside time on our schedule to evaluate and fit you for contact lenses.

Glaucoma Testing and Management
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness throughout the world. Glaucoma is a disease of the eye that causes damage to the optic nerve. The Optic nerve is the pathway that carries the images we see to the brain. If left untreated, the disease can destroy the optic nerve leading to loss of vision.

To date, with proper medical care, glaucoma may be treated and controlled. Since most people with glaucoma experience no noticeable symptoms, an eye examination for glaucoma including specialized testing is the most important tool in prevention vision loss from the disease. During your exam, Dr. First may determine that the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph test is needed. The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph is a system that combines a laser scanning camera and specialized software that evaluates the optic nerve. The HRT may diagnose glaucoma years before symptoms become apparent to the patient. The HRT gives measurements of size, depth and shape of the optic nerve and is especially useful at detecting small changes over time.

The HRT exam takes just a few moments; it is a painless, non-invasive test and dilation of the eye is usually not necessary. The HRT is an accurate way to follow your progress and your doctor may order repeat exams periodically to check your progress.
Glasses
From conservative to trendy, our office maintains a stock of frames to fit almost everyone's style and budget. We can special order almost any frame that will be sure to make you comfortable with wearing glasses. We also offer the highest quality lenses that can keep your glasses thin and lightweight.
Routine Vision Exams
It is important to maintain the quality of your vision by visiting your eye doctor for routine vision exams. Dr. First recommends a vision exam once a year even if you do not wear glasses. Changes in your vision may indicate other health problems that could otherwise go undetected. Catching problems early is key to the management of eye disease and essential to maintain the health of your eyes. Children should also be seen regularly for vision exams.
