Complimentary Evaluation

The Complimentary Evaluation is your first step to clear vision. The evaluation is designed to determine weather or not you are a candidate for a laser eye treatment. At this no charge visit, we will take necessary measurements to review such things as visual acuity, pupil size, corneal thickness, ocular history, family history, corneal photos, and your expectations. At this time, Dr. First will sit down with you to discuss your options for vision correction. If you are a candidate, he will take this opportunity to educate you on the surgical process and answer all of your questions. Once you have made a decision to move forward, you may schedule an appointment for a pre-operative exam. In some cases this next exam can be performed on the same day.

Pre Operative

The Pre Operative exam is your second step. Dr. First will finalize all measurements to ensure you have a successful result. For this visit you will need to be out of contact lenses. If you are in Soft contact lenses, you must remove them 3-5 days prior to your pre operative exam. If you are in gas permeable contact lenses, you must remove them 2 weeks prior to your pre operative exam. On this day, Melissa our surgery coordinator will sit down with you to discuss with you what you can expect on the day of surgery and the days following. If you chose to finance your surgery, Melissa can also make the arrangements on this day. Please set aside plenty of time for this visit, as Dr. First likes to thoroughly answer every one of your questions. The pre-operative exam is the point where Dr. First takes the measurements for your personalized treatment. Dr. First will also perform an eye health examination that will give you your medical clearance necessary for surgery. During this detailed exam, the entire structure of each eye is evaluated and discussed with you.

Day of Surgery

The Day of Surgery is your special day. You will be asked to check in a 30 minutes before your scheduled treatment to finish any paperwork, and to have an opportunity to meet with Dr. First one more time to answer any last minute questions you might have. You will be given the option to take a relaxation pill (valium) so you will need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from our office that day. Plan on being at the office for approximately 2 hours; however your actual treatment time will be less than 10 minutes for both eyes! Most patients notice a change in their vision right away, and as the day goes on the vision will continue to improve. You will be asked to return the following day for your first post-operative visit. It is the morning after a Lasik treatment when patients begin to experience the "Wow" factor.
